Thermoelectric effects in a strongly correlated model for NaxCoO2

چکیده
Thermal response functions of strongly correlated electron systems are of appreciable interest to the larger scientific community both theoretically and technologically. Here, we focus on the infinitely correlated t-J model on a geometrically frustrated two-dimensional triangular lattice. Using exact diagonalization on a finite sized system, we calculate the dynamical thermal response functions in order to determine the thermopower, Lorenz number, and dimensionless figure of merit. The dynamical thermal response functions are compared to the infinite frequency limit and shown to be very weak functions of frequency, hence, establishing the validity of the high frequency formalism recently proposed by Shastry Phys. Rev. B 73, 085117 2006 for the thermopower, Lorenz number, and the dimensionless figure of merit. Further, the thermopower is demonstrated to have a low to intermediate temperature enhancement when the sign of the hopping parameter t is switched from positive to negative for the geometrically frustrated lattice A. Thermoelectric Properties of NaxCoO2 and Prospects for Other Oxide Thermoelectrics
We discuss the thermoelectric properties of NaxCoO2 using the electronic structure, as determined in first principles calculations, and Boltzmann kinetic transport theory. The Fermi energy lies near the top of a manifold of Co t2g bands. These t2g bands are separated by a large gap from the higherlying eg states. Although the large crystal-field splitting implies substantial Co–O hybridization,...
متن کاملThermoelectric properties of the degenerate Hubbard model
We investigate the thermoelectric properties of a system near a pressure-driven Mott-Hubbard transition. The dependence of the thermopower and the figure of merit on pressure and temperature within a degenerate Hubbard model for integer filling n51 is calculated using dynamical mean-field theory. The quantum Monte Carlo method is used to solve the impurity model. Obtained results can qualitativ...
متن کاملA Mystery in Thermoelectric Layered Cobaltites; the Correlation between Magnetism and Transport Properties on the Two-Dimensional Triangular Lattice
Using muon spin spectroscopy we have found that, for both NaxCoO2 (0.6 x 0.9) and 3and 4-layer cobaltites, a common low temperature magnetic state (which in some cases is manifest as an incommensurate spin density wave) forms in the CoO2 planes. Here we summarize those results and report an almost dome-shaped relation <_ <_ between the transition temperature into the low-T magnetic state and th...
متن کاملHigh-frequency thermoelectric response in correlated electronic systems
We derive a general formalism for evaluating the high-frequency limit of the thermoelectric power of strongly correlated materials, which can be straightforwardly implemented in available first principles LDA + DMFT programs. We explore this formalism using model Hamiltonians and we investigate the validity of approximating the static thermoelectric power S0, by its high-temperature limit, S∗. ...
متن کاملThermoelectric Response Driven by Spin-State Transition in La1-xCexCoO3 Perovskites
An unusual thermoelectric response was observed in n-type perovskite oxide La1-xCexCoO3. Combining transport and magnetic measurements, we found that the thermoelectric response is driven by the spin-state transition of Co3+. This transition destroys the spin blockade effect and induces an abrupt decrease of resistivity as well as an insulator-metal transition. In contrast to the resistivity ch...
